Maresca Pledges Not To Allow Chelsea Players Relent In Title Race
Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca says he will not allow his players to relent after they launched an unlikely title bid with victory over Tottenham Hotspurs on Sunday.
A 4-3 win over Spurs in North London has taken Chelsea up to second on the Premier League table, four points behind leaders Liverpool, who have a game in hand.
From afar, Chelsea's ambition before the start of the season appeared to be a place in the top four after a two-year absence but an impressive start might see them realign their goals for the campaign.
Maresca still favours Liverpool, Arsenal and Manchester City as title favourites but will not allow his players to drop their performance.
"The plan or the idea is to not let the players slow down. They can not drop because they know another player is waiting to come in," the Chelsea boss told Sky Sports.
"Arsenal, City and Liverpool probably don't slide - like Cucurella did! To be serious, we are not ready, we are far from these teams but we focus on day-by-day and trying to improve the team."
Chelsea's next Premier League game is at home to Brentford on Sunday.
