Ivory Coast Give Emerse Fae Permanent Contract For Masterminding AFCON Win
Ivory Coast have given AFCON-winning manager Emerse Fae a permanent contract.
The 40-year-old was handed the reigns on a temporary basis midway through the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations after Jean-Louis Gasset was sacked.
Ivory Coast looked to be heading out during the group stages after defeats to Nigeria and Equatorial Guinea but managed to scrape through to the knockout rounds as one of the four best third-placed sides.
Fae then masterminded wins over defending champions Senegal, Mali and DR Congo before beating Nigeria 2-1 in the final.
"Emerse was until now interim coach and has just been confirmed today as full coach," the Ivoirian federation boss Idriss Diallo said.
The length of Fae's contract has not been disclosed.
As a player, Fae won 41 caps for Ivory Coast and played at the 2006 FIFA World Cup.
