Barcelona Bring Szczesny Out Of Retirement To Cover For Injured Ter Stegen
Poland goalkeeper Wojciech Szczesny has come out of retirement to sign a deal with Barcelona until the end of the season.
The 34-year-old called time on his professional career back in August after leaving Juventus as a free agent.
Barcelona turned to Szczesny after their number one goalkeeper Marc-Andre Ter Stegen suffered a serious knee injury last month and is expected to miss the rest of the season.
“FC Barcelona and Wojciech Szczęsny have reached an agreement for the goalkeeper to join the Club until 30 June 2025,” read a club statement.
Szczesny will battle it out with Inaki Pena for the number one spot and could make his debut at Deportivo Alaves this weekend in La Liga.
He has also played for Arsenal, where he won two FA Cups, Brentford and AS Roma.
Szczesny's spell with Juventus brought 252 appearances, 103 clean sheets, three Serie A titles, three Coppa Italia trophies and the Italian Super Cup two times.
Szczesny featured 84 times for Poland and played at two FIFA World Cups and four European Championships.
