Maurizio Sarri Resigns As Lazio Manager

The decision follows a miserable run of form for the Rome-based club, who have lost five times in their last six games, including a 2-1 home loss to relegation candidates Udinese on Monday.

Sarri was appointed Lazio manager in the summer of 2021 and led them to fifth and second placed finishes in his first two seasons in charge.

Lazio were knocked out of the Champions League by Bayern Munich in the round of 16 stage last week and their defeat to Udinese on Monday has left them in 9th position on the Serie A table, eleven points off the top four.

The 65-year-old will be succeeded on an interim basis by Giovanni Martusciello.

“SS Lazio announces that Maurizio Sarri has resigned as head coach of the first team,” a Lazio statement read.

“The club would like to thank the coach for his achievements and for the work he has done, wishing him the best of luck in his personal and professional life.

“At the same time, the club announces that it has decided to entrust the technical guidance to Giovanni Martusciello.”

Lazio's next game is away to Frosinone on Saturday.
