Manchester United have two players on the list in the shape of Marcus Rashford and Bruno Fernandes, likewise Aston Villa, who are represented by Anwar El Ghazi and goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez.
Mohamed Salah, Tomas Soucek, John Stones and Ben Mee complete the shortlist.
El Ghazi hit a purple patch in the last month of the year, scoring five times, including a brace against West Bromwich Albion and a strike in a 1-1 draw at Chelsea while teammate Martinez kept four clean sheets in five outings for Villa, who went unbeaten for the month of December.
Fernandes was also instrumental in Manchester United going unbeaten in December. The Portuguese international scored three times and laid on four assists for his teammates. Like El Ghazi, Rashford also scored five times in December to help United emerge as champions Liverpool’s closest challengers.
Stones has enjoyed some sort of resurgence in the Manchester City backline and he underlined his importance to his team’s cause by helping them to four clean sheets in the four games he played in December.
Czech Republic international Soucek was at his menacing best in December, notching three times for David Moyes’ men, including a late equaliser against Brighton and Hove Albion.
Salah scored five goals to top the scoring chart and also provided two assists for leaders Liverpool while Mee scored once and helped Burnley to three clean sheets in December.
Dean Smith, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, Carlo Ancelotti and Sean Dyche are contesting for the manager of the month award.
