Wisdom played the entire 90 minutes last Saturday as Derby defeated Reading 2-1 to boost their promotion hopes.
The attack happened later the same day when the former Liverpool defender went to pick up a relative in the Toxteth area but was attacked by a man with a knife as he got out from his car.
Merseyside police are currently investigating the incident.
"Derby County Football Club can confirm that Andre Wisdom has been the victim of an unprovoked assault and robbery," an official statement read.
"He sustained injuries which resulted in him being admitted to hospital, where he is in a stable condition.
"Merseyside Police are investigating and the club will focus its efforts on supporting Andre and his family. Therefore, we will not be making any further comment at this time."
Wisdom came through the youth ranks at Liverpool and made 14 Premier League appearances before taking in loan spells at Derby County, West Bromwich Albion, Norwich City and Red Bull Salzburg in Austria. He joined Derby permanently in the summer of 2017.
The 27-year-old has made 20 appearances in all competitions for Derby this season.
Wisdom will miss Wednesday’s Championship clash with Preston North End and will likely sit out against Nottingham Forest this weekend as well.
