Football in Europe was suspended in early March to check the rapid spread of Covid-19 across the region, but the German Bundesliga on Saturday became the first major European league to resume playing following a two-month hiatus due to the coronavirus crisis.
La Liga have been given the green light by the Spain government to start training in the hope of resuming its season around June 12.
Rakitic hopes the Spanish league can follow the path set by the Bundesliga and admits he was happy to see football return, but a ‘little sad’ to see it being played behind closed doors.
"It's nice to see football has been able to return, that's exciting, but it's a little sad to see it happen without fans, hopefully we can follow that same path," the former Sevilla and Schalke 04 man explained in an interview with Marca’s Marc Marquez.
"This is an image we're going to have to get used to, the separate benches and no fans.”
"I really want to feel like a footballer again, there has been a good rhythm to training and feeling the movement of passing a ball to a teammate instead of a wall brings you adrenaline."
