Spalletti Adamant Napoli 4-0 Win Over Sampdoria Wasn’t Easy

Napoli continued their bright start to the 2021/2022 season in a grand style when they beat Sampdoria 4-0 at the Luigi Ferraris Stadium in Serie A on Thursday but head coach Luciano Spalletti has insisted his side did not get the victory easily in Genoa.

Spalletti says his men did well to keep Sampdoria at bay and they should be given credit for securing an emphatic win against their rivals.

Nigeria international Victor Osimhen put the visitors ahead in the opening ten minutes before Fabian Ruiz doubled the lead six minutes before the interval.

Osimhen got his second in the game five minutes after the break before Poland international Piotr Zielinski settled Roberto D’Aversa’s side’s loss nine minutes later.

“It was a good result, but Sampdoria caused us problems in the first half. Where we deserve credit is for hanging in there, resisting the pressure and then finishing our chances well,” the former AS Roma and Inter Milan head coach said after the game.

“Ospina did really well in goal during the first half, as Sampdoria pounced on us from the start, but that left huge gaps behind their defence, and in those situations Osimhen is devastating.

“When the game isn’t going well, you have to try to get something from the individuals and that’s what we did.”

Next up for Spalletti is a home game against Sardinia-based side Cagliari on Sunday before entertaining Spartak Moscow in the Europa League on Thursday.
