Lampard Not ‘Blown Away’ With Chelsea’s Performance In Victory Over Fulham

Chelsea put their recent bad run behind them to beat local rivals Fulham 1-0 in the Premier League on Saturday, but head coach Frank Lampard has admitted he is fairly convinced with his side’s performance against the Cottagers.

The Blues were made to work hard for the victory against a ten-man Fulham at the Craven Cottage.

Chelsea dominated proceedings from the onset but lacked the guile and creativity to open the hosts’ defence.

The closest Lampard’s men came to taking the lead was midway through the first half when Mason Mount, who was a thorn in Fulham’s flesh throughout the game, rattled the woodwork with a thunderous effort.

Scott Parker’s men went down to ten men on the cusp of half time when defender Antonee Robinson made a career-ending tackle on Cesar Azpilicueta, which forced referee Peter Bankes to show him the red card.

Fulham were able to keep Chelsea at bay until the 78th minute when Mount pounced home a rebound to secure a crucial win for the visitors.

"Fulham have got good recent results. Tough to beat and dangerous in attack. The challenge against 10 men was different,” Lampard said after the game.

"You want to take advantage of the situation. A month ago we were flying high, then since then we've struggled. It's a challenge even a man down. We got the goal though and could have got more.

Lampard was further asked if a lack of confidence affected the team’s mentality. The English coach added: "Maybe a bit. That's normal in football. But every team are having phases of form. Within that you get individuals short of form. We've got talent at the top end and it's my job to sort that out.

"Perfection is not an easy thing to get. I won't say I was blown away with the performance. There were lots of bits I was happy with, but we won't get too ahead of ourselves."
