Too Early To Talk About Title Race, Says Lampard Ahead Of Old Trafford Trip

Chelsea head coach Frank Lampard has insisted that it is too early to talk about the Premier League title ahead of his side’s trip to face Manchester United at Old Trafford on Saturday.

The Blues finished fourth in the Premier League table last season, but expectations were high at the beginning of this campaign due to the hefty amount the West Londoners spent in the transfer market.

It has not been a bright start to the season for Lampard’s men having won two and drawn two out of their opening five league games.

Chelsea have been tipped to compete with the likes of Manchester City and Liverpool due to the summer arrivals of the likes of Ben Chilwell, Hakim Ziyech, Thiago Silva, Timo Werner and Kai Havertz, but Lampard has played down any title talks and insists his side should only think about themselves.

“There has been an a uncertainty within life and within the game which has brought about an unpredictability which have seen in the early stage of the season," said the Chelsea boss in his press conference.

"We can only focus on ourselves and what we can possibly do, we have belief in ourselves.

"We will see how things level out over the season. It is fair too early to commit to what might be different or not."

He added: "It is too early to assume anything. You can't assume whether there will be a runaway winner or not.”

"The games against teams around you will always be big, they are great for confidence if you can play well and get a result.

"But over the course of the season there is more to it than that.

"Last season we were not so strong at grinding out points at home as we should have done and that would have affected our position."
