Storm Ciara Forces Postponement Of Man City-West Ham Game

Manchester City’s Premier League home game against West Ham United on Sunday has been postponed because of bad weather.

Storm Ciara has battered the United Kingdom with strong winds and heavy rain in recent days, and the Premier League fixture has fallen victim to its wrath.

The game is one of a number of sporting activities that have been called off this weekend in the UK because of the storm.

The game would have been the final fixture of the opening weekend of the Premier League’s inaugural winter break as four games were scheduled to be played this week and the remaining six games taking place next week.

It is not yet known when the game will be honoured.

By the time Manchester City return to action on February 22 against Leicester City, they would have enjoyed a three-week break while West Ham United do not play again until February 24 against Liverpool.

A statement from Manchester City read: “Due to extreme and escalating weather conditions and in the interests of supporter and staff safety, today’s match has been postponed.

“This decision has been made by Manchester City’s Safety Officer following consultation with Club stakeholders and officials at West Ham United.

“Further information regarding the rescheduling of today’s match will be published in due course.”

Manchester City could now find themselves 25 points behind Liverpool when they return to action. The Reds travel to bottom club Norwich City next week.

Sunday’s other league game between Sheffield United and Bournemouth will go ahead as planned.
