Abraham, whose father is Nigerian, was born in London and has represented England at youth level.
Abraham won two caps for the Three Lions of England in friendly games against Germany and Brazil last year, but is still eligible to represent the country of his father since they were not competitive games.
The 21-year-old has begun the season in brilliant fashion, scoring four Premier League goals in four games for Chelsea, but he missed the decisive penalty kick as the Blues lost to Liverpool in the UEFA Super Cup last month.
They were calls for Gareth Southgate to include Abraham in his England squad for EURO 2020 qualifying games against Bulgaria and Kosovo but the striker missed out on selection.
Nigeria Football Federation president Amaju Pinnick is friends with Abraham’s father and he is keen to see the former Aston Villa loanee represent the three-time African champions.
“We will not relent in our quest for good players to play for the country and win laurels. We will keep talking to good players of Nigeria descent to play for their fatherland,” Pinnick is quoted as saying by the Daily Mail.
“But like you know, these kids are very independent-minded. In fact, we have been told to wait until April 2020, when he hopes to make a final decision on the matter.
“I told him that he stood a better chance of playing regularly for Nigeria than with England, which has a galaxy of strikers of the English stock.”
