Hazard Announces Retirement From International Football At 31

Belgium captain Eden Hazard has announced his retirement from international football at the age of 31.

The decision comes following Belgium's group stage elimination at the ongoing FIFA World Cup in Qatar.

The Red Devils started their campaign with a 1-0 win over Canada but a 2-0 reverse to Morocco was followed by a goalless draw with Croatia which was not enough to earn them a spot in the knockout rounds.

Hazard made his debut for Belgium back in 2008 and spent 14 years in the side, winning 126 caps and scoring 36 goals.

He played at three FIFA World Cups and two European Championships, helping his country to third place at Russia 2018.

Writing on his Instagram page, Hazard said: "A page turns today. Thank you for your love. Thank you for your unparalleled support. Thank you for all this happiness shared since 2008.

"I have decided to put an end to my international career. The succession is ready. I will miss you."

One of the most gifted players of his generation, Hazard has been a shadow of his former self since swapping Chelsea for Real Madrid in the summer of 2019.

A succession of injuries have seen Hazard's career stall in the Spanish capital and it remains to be seen whether he will ever get back to his very best.
