Griezmann’s partner, Erika Choperena, was not in the stands as the world champions swiftly dispatched minnows Albania at the Stade de France with goals from Kingsley Koman, who scored twice, Olivier Giroud and debutant Jonathan Ikone completing the job for Didier Deschamps’ men.
The only downside for Les Bleus was Griezmann’s 37th minute penalty miss as the Barcelona forward sent his spot kick crashing against the crossbar before bouncing back into play.
Asked about his penalty miss after the game, the 28-year-old attacker said: "I don't know [what happened]. I don't know.
"As I said earlier, maybe it's because my wife didn't watch the game!
"I was on a good dynamic but we can't score every time. Too bad, I'll have to work on it."
France have had to contend with the absence of several key players including Paul Pogba, N’golo Kante, Kylian Mbappe and Ousmane Dembele, but Griezmann was delighted with the victory that took them to the top of Group H, level on 12 points apiece with Turkey and Iceland.
"We were missing important players, whether on the field or in the locker room," he said. "The players who played in their place did it very well.
"We are on the right track and it shows that we are a group. We had a good game. We can only regret the goal we conceded at the end."
France will play hosts to Andorra in their next match on Tuesday.
