Ribery has been troubled by a knee injury recently which has restricted him to just one Serie A appearance for Salernitana this season.
He came to a mutual agreement to terminate his contract with Salernitana and has now decided to hang his boots.
"The ball stops. The feelings inside me do not. Thanks to everyone for this great adventure," Ribery posted on his official Twitter account on Friday.
The former Galatasaray and Olympique Marseille winger spent the most successful part of his club career with Bayern Munich.
Ribery won nine Bundesliga titles and the UEFA Champions League among numerous other honours during a 12-year stint with the Bavarians.
Ribery made 425 appearances in all competitions for Bayern Munich, scoring 124 goals and adding 182 assists.
Bayern paid tribute to Ribery with a post on Twitter which read: "One of the best players in our history has called time on his amazing career. Thanks for everything, Franck Ribery."
Ribery spent two seasons with Fiorentina after leaving Bayern Munich in the summer of 2019. He scored five goals in 50 Serie A appearances while laying on nine assists for his teammates in his two seasons in Florence.
At international level, Ribery represented the French national team 81 times, scoring 16 goals and helping them reach the final of the 2006 FIFA World Cup, where they lost to Italy.
