Werner Admits He Feels More Comfortable Playing For Germany Than Chelsea

Timo Werner has suggested he thrives better in the German national team system than at club side Chelsea.

Werner was on the score sheet alongside Chelsea teammate Kai Havertz when Germany defeated Israel 2-0 in a friendly game on Saturday.

That was the 26-year-old's 22nd goal in 48 appearances for his country.

By contrast, Werner's goal tally since moving to Chelsea from RB Leipzig in the summer of 2020 have dried up.

Werner only scored 12 goals in all competitions for the Blues in his first season and has added another seven in 28 appearances this season.

The former Stuttgart striker is no longer a guaranteed starter under Thomas Tuchel these days at Stamford Bridge.

Werner has opined that his poor club form could be as a result of the way he is deployed.

"I'm a striker and always want to score," he said.

"Things aren't going the way I'd like at Chelsea, so it's all the better that things are going well here under Hansi Flick.

"I really enjoy playing football, no matter where I'm playing. There are differences in the style of play between football at Chelsea and here.

"Maybe the one at the national team suits me better. Here, I always have scoring chances, I can score goals. I feel very comfortable here."
