Footballing World Pays Tribute To Retiring Aguero

Tributes have been pouring in from all over the globe for Sergio Aguero, who has been forced into an early retirement from football at the age of 33 due to a heart issue.

Aguero bid a tearful goodbye to the beautiful game on Wednesday at Barcelona’s Camp Nou stadium.

Aguero played just five times for his new club Barcelona after joining from Manchester City this summer and scored one goal which was a consolation in a 2-1 defeat to Real Madrid in October.

The former Atletico Madrid striker's final game came against Deportivo Alaves on October 30, when he was substituted on the cusp of halftime with chest complaints.

He was initially ruled out for three months but one of the most prolific strikers in the 21st century will not be returning to the field.

Former club Man City led the tributes, posting: “Everyone at Manchester City would like to take this opportunity to thank Sergio Kun Aguero for his incredible contribution to our success over the last decade and wish him well in his retirement.”

Vincent Kompany, his former captain, added: “An extraordinary striker has retired from the game, but also a great team mate, a friend and a unique personality. Thanks and respect to an authentic Man City phenomenon. I wish you nothing but the best legend.”

Yaya Toure said: “Sergio, my friend. I am sad to see you retire today but I am also excited for your future. You have so much to offer the game.

“We shared many great times and I feel blessed to have been your teammate. You will go down as one of the greatest. Playing alongside you was an honour!”

Before joining Barcelona, Aguero earned cult hero status in a ten-year spell with Man City, where he became the club's all-time top scorer with 260 goals in 390 appearances.

He won five Premier League titles with the Citizens, one FA Cup and six League Cups.
