Qingdao Huanghai beat Shanghai Shenxin 2-0 on Saturday with the 36-year-old former Ivory Coast international playing the full 90 minutes to help the away side move three points clear of second placed Guizhou Zhicheng, going into next week’s final round of fixtures.
Toure joined Qingdao Huanghai in July on a free transfer after leaving Greek side Olympiacos in December last year.
Toure has played 13 times in the league this season, scoring two goals and providing three assists.
"Today we made history. Promotion! Next season Qingdao Huanghai FC will be where they should be... The Chinese Super League," Toure tweeted.
"I’m proud to help make this happen but I want the title. One more game to go."
Quingdao Huanghai will have the chance to wrap up the title on November 2 when they host Nantong Zhiyun at the Quingdao Guoxin Stadium.
Toure, who is a four-time African footballer of the year, spent eight seasons with Manchester City where he won three Premier League titles, one FA Cup and two League Cups.
He was a member of the Ivory Coast national team that beat Ghana on penalties to win the 2015 African Cup of Nations.
