Mourinho says it was a difficult game against Luca Gotti’s men but lauded his side for being united to achieve a hard-fought win.
AS Roma started the game on the front foot and deservedly took the lead through their new number nine Tammy Abraham with his second Serie A goal of the season on the 36th minute of the game.
The hosts’ ascendancy and dominance came to an end after the break and had to dig deep to protect their lead.
Mourinho’s men held on and eventually recorded their fourth win of the 2021/2022 season in the Italian league.
“After defeat, the next game is always more difficult on an emotional level. I think the first 35 minutes showed more quality than we’ve had yet this season. We were in total control against a team that is very well defensively organized,” Mourinho told DAZN after the game.
“We scored a goal, had more chances, had all the transitions working well and the game was in hand.
“After the break, we lost control of the match, but still played as a team. In the most difficult moment of the game, we stayed united, closed the spaces and pushed the ball out into the less dangerous zones.
“It was a difficult match, but a good one.”
