Eight Brazil Players Blocked From Playing In Premier League This Weekend

The Brazil Football Association have invoked a FIFA rule that will prevent Premier League players who failed to honour international call-ups from competing in the top flight this weekend.

Under FIFA’s ‘five-day rule’ players who fail to honour international commitments will be barred from competing for their clubs for five days after the international break.

Premier League clubs unanimously opted to block their Brazilian players from representing their country in the September international break which would have required them to quarantine for ten days upon their return to the UK.

FIFA president Gianni Infantino failed in an attempt to get the UK government to waive the 10-day quarantine period for players who travelled to countries on their red list.

Players who have been affected by this ‘five-day rule’ include Liverpool trio Alisson Becker, Fabinho and Roberto Firmino.

Manchester City duo Ederson and Gabriel Jesus, Chelsea’s Thiago Silva, Manchester United midfielder Fred and Leeds United winger Raphinha will all be missing in action for their clubs this weekend.

Everton forward Richarlison also did not turn up for Brazil but he will be available for the Toffees this weekend. The Brazil FA have opted not to report Everton to FIFA because the Merseyside based club released Richarlison for their Olympic Games campaign when they were not obliged to.
