Danny Ings Joins Aston Villa From Southampton

Danny Ings Joins Aston Villa From Southampton

Danny Ings has signed a three-year deal with Aston Villa from Southampton for a reported fee of £25 million.

Ings was heavily linked with a move away from the St Mary’s Stadium but Villa was not mentioned as a possible destination for the 29-year-old forward.

Aston Villa look to be preparing for life after Jack Grealish who is currently a target for Manchester City and seems to be nearing a move to the Etihad Stadium in a British record of £100 million.

The former Southampton striker becomes Villa's fourth summer signing following the arrivals of Emiliano Buendia, Ashley Young and Leon Bailey.

Aston Villa head coach Dean Smith believes the signing of Ings will bolster his attacking department going into the new season.

“Danny is an outstanding Premier League footballer who has scored goals wherever he has played.

“He is also a top professional with a great character who will be a leader in our squad and a role model for our rapidly developing young Academy players who are now in and around the first team. I am delighted to welcome Danny to our great Club.”

Ings' move to Villa means Liverpool will also benefit from the sale as they will receive £6 million as part of their sell-on agreement with Southampton for their former striker.

The England international could have become the highly paid figure at Southampton but turned down an offer of a four-year deal presented to him by the club in July as he was getting into the final year of his contract.

Danny Ings scored 14 goals last season for both club and country.

The goal-poacher will be available for selection when Villa kick start the 2021-22  Premier League season away with Watford on August 14.
