Brazilian goalkeeper Alisson left AS Roma in 2018 to join Liverpool as the Italian club have since struggled to replace him with respect to his performances.
But Rui Patricio upon his arrival has declared he's not come to succeed Becker, indicating the key role Jose Mourinho played in his transfer.
“It is neither a matter of concern or motivation. There are high expectations every time a player arrives at a new club,” the Portuguese goalkeeper said during his unveiling press conference.
“I’m here to work and improve every day. I’m adapting to the team, I’m learning every day and I feel good, I’m motivated to help this team,” he ensured.
“I am very proud of Roma’s interest in me. Everyone knows the size of this club and it is a pride to fight to achieve the goals of this team,” the Portuguese goalkeeper said at a press conference.
“It is clear that when I agreed to join Roma, I did so because of the importance of this club and the coach,” he said.
“It’s an honour for me to represent and defend this club and to have this coach. Everyone wants to do their best when joining a new team. Sometimes it happens, sometimes not.
“I promise maximum commitment and to settle as soon as possible, together we can aspire to win and achieve our goals.
“I’ve been here for just five days, so I still need to understand how we build from the back, we’ll have time to work on this.
“In terms of communication, there’s no doubt that it is important to make myself understood by defenders. I am learning the keywords to talk to my teammates and let them help me.”
The Giallorossi signed the 33-year-old for a reported fee of €11.5 million from Wolves plus potential €2.5 million in bonuses.
