Mancini has dedicated the emphatic win over Switzerland “to all the Italians who are suffering right now.”
The Azzurri has secured their place in the next round of the competition with their second victory in Group A.
Sassuolo midfielder Manuel Locatelli drew first blood for Mancini’s men on 26 minutes before scoring his second on the night seven minutes after the break.
Lazio striker Ciro Immobile sealed Italy’s victory in the dying embers of the game to put the Italians into the Round of 16 stage of the competition.
Italy have now gone 965 minutes without conceding a goal and have kept a clean sheet in each of their last 10 matches in all competitions.
“Switzerland are a strong side, we knew it would be a tough game and it was. We had chances, could’ve scored earlier and suffered where we had to, but deserved it at the end,” the former Manchester City and Inter Milan head coach told RAI Sport.
“We were struggling in the opening minutes, but then we pressed them high and forced them to make mistakes. The lads did really well, it wasn’t easy, their second game in five days and it’s so hot.
“We changed system to have a breather, as we were tired and needed to make adjustments.”
The final game with Wales will decide the winner of Group A and therefore their next fixture in the next round.
Mancini added: “We play to win every game and then we’ll see what happens. We dedicate this win to all the Italians who are suffering right now.”
