Esperito Santo Steps Down As Wolves Manager

After four successful seasons at the Molineux stadium, Nuno Esperito Santo has announced he will step down as Wolverhampton Wanders manager at the end of the season.

Esperito Santo only signed a three-year extension to his Wolves contract last September but he has reached an agreement with the Wolves hierarchy to leave early.

The 47-year-old joined Wolves in the summer of 2017 and guided them from the Championship to the Premier League in his first season at the club.

Wolves secured back-to-back seventh place finishes in their first two seasons in the Premier League under Esperito Santo and reached the quarterfinal stage of last season’s Europa League but have struggled this campaign without the injured Raul Jimenez and the departures of Diogo Jota and Matt Doherty to Liverpool and Tottenham Hotspurs respectively.

In a statement Esperito Santo said: “We achieved our goals, we did it with passion and we did it together. Firstly, I want to thank the supporters, who have all played such an important part in helping us reach new heights for Wolves, and the people of the city, who embraced us and made us feel at home. I, of course, want to thank all of the staff at Wolves, for their support and total commitment, every single day.

“Most importantly, I want to thank each and every player that we’ve worked with since the day we started, for their loyalty, their dedication, hard work and talent. They are the ones who have made this amazing journey possible for us. Sunday will be a very emotional day, but I am so happy that the fans will be back in Molineux and we can share one last special moment together, as one pack.”

Esperito Santo was Jose Mourinho’s reserve goalkeeper when FC Porto won the UEFA Champions League in 2004.
