Zidane Coy On Super League Talks As Real Madrid Prepare To Face Chelsea

Real Madrid head coach Zinedine Zidane has insisted he is uninterested about the talks of the European Super League ahead of his side’s Champions League game against Chelsea on Tuesday.

The French coach said his men are focused on the task at hand amid recent talks about the formation of the Super League.

Real Madrid president Florentino Perez spearheaded other top European clubs to form a new competition in an attempt to rival the UEFA Champions League but the initiative could not come to fruition after the ‘big six’ clubs in England decided to discontinue.

Ahead of the first leg of the Champions League against the Blues at the Estadio Alfredo Di Stefano, Zidane was asked about the breakaway competition but the former France international was very circumspect with his answer.

He said: “The president knows what I have in my heart and what I think, and we are here to prepare [for] the match. The rest is not that we are not interested, it’s just not the moment to talk about it. We are going to play a Champions League semi-final, and that’s all we can think about.

“We have a match against Chelsea, I’m sorry but I’m not going to answer about that. Right now people are talking a lot about whether we will be in the competition next year or not.

“We have to pay attention to the match. We don’t control that, there’s going to be a lot of conversation, and I’m just giving my opinion. We want to see Real Madrid in the next Champions League, and that’s it.”
