Mourinho Fired As Tottenham Hotspur Manager

Jose Mourinho has been sacked as manager of Tottenham Hotspur after just 17 months in charge of the club.

Mourinho was appointed to replace Mauricio Pochettino in November 2019 and he led the Lilywhites to sixth place on the table after a troubled start to the 2019/2020 season.

The former Chelsea and Real Madrid manager has had an underwhelming first full season in charge in North London despite guiding Tottenham to the Carabao Cup final against Manchester City.

But with less than a week to the showdown against Pep Guardiola’s charges at Wembley, Mourinho will not be in the dugout when Spurs attempt to win their first trophy in more than a decade.

In a statement, Spurs said: "The club can today announce that Jose Mourinho and his coaching staff Joao Sacramento, Nuno Santos, Carlos Lalin and Giovanni Cerra have been relieved of their duties."

Spurs chairman Daniel Levy said: "Jose and his coaching staff have been with us through some of our most challenging times as a club. Jose is a true professional who showed enormous resilience during the pandemic.

"On a personal level I have enjoyed working with him and regret that things have not worked out as we both had envisaged. He will always be welcome here and we should like to thank him and his coaching staff for their contribution."

Tottenham are seventh on the Premier League table, five points behind West Ham United in fourth.

Mourinho took charge of 86 games as Tottenham manager, winning 44, losing 23 and drawing 19.
