Hoeness To Prevent Bayern Players From Honoring Germany Call Ups If Neuer Is Dropped

Bayern Munich president Uli Hoeness has warned coach of the German national team, Joachim Low, that the Bavarians’ players will be prevented from honouring call ups if Manuel Neuer is dropped as first choice goalkeeper.

Neuer’s position as Germany’s number one goalkeeper has come under threat from FIFA Men’s goalkeeper of the year nominee Marc-Andre Ter Stegen in recent times.

Despite Ter Stegen’s impressive performances for Barcelona over the last three years, he has failed to dislodge Neuer as Germany’s first choice goalkeeper, with the Bayern Munich shot-stopper overcoming a long-term injury problem to start for the then defending champions at the 2018 FIFA World Cup.

Ter Stegen recently voiced his frustrations after failing to play a single minute in Germany’s EURO 2020 qualifying games against Netherlands and Northern Ireland.

Those comments did not go down well with Neuer, who asked Ter Stegen to show some respect to the likes of Kevin Trapp and Bernd Leno as they are all eager to be in goal for the national team.

Manuel Neuer was in post for both games as Ter Stegen continues to serve as back up to the Bayern Munich goalkeeper.

There have been calls for Ter Stegen, who has 22 caps for Germany, to be given a look-in by Joachim Low as a result of his impressive performances for Barcelona but the manager has stuck by his captain.

"Before that happens, we will no longer send players to the national team anymore," Hoeness told Sport Bild.

"We will never accept that there will be a change here."

Asked whether he would seek talks with head coach Low, Hoeness replied: "He'll hear what we've said before and his ears will ring."
