Wenger Labels Mbappe As The New Pele

Arsene Wenger has explained the similarities between Paris Saint-Germain superstar Kylian Mbappe and Brazil icon Pele.

The former Arsenal head coach believes the France international is the new Pele as he revealed their similarities.

The 80-year-old Brazilian is considered as the greatest footballer ever due to his exploits at the various FIFA World Cups.

Pele gained the attention of the watching world when he helped Brazil to their first ever World Cup in 1958 in Sweden. The-then 17-year-old even scored in the final as the South American country ran riot against the host nation.

The Santos icon won three World Cups out of the four tournaments he played, that was between 1958 to 1970.

Mbappe on the other hand is showing shades of Pele in the early stages of his career, having already established himself as one of the current best footballers in the world.

The former Monaco man won the 2018 World Cup with Les Bleus in Russia, and got a goal in the final against Croatia, making him the second teenager after Pele to ever score in the final.

In an interview with Le Parisien, Arsene Wenger pointed out the most obvious similarity between the two stars.

The Frenchman said: “I’ve been saying for years there are similarities between Kylian and Pele. He is a good example to follow.

“Pele played four World Cups and won three of them (1958, 1962, and 1970). Kylian is only 22 years old, he already played the 2018 World Cup and won it.

“The environment for a player has a lot of weight for the success of his career. We needed stability in France. Nobody realized how lucky France is by having Kylian Mbappe.”
