Mourinho and his juggernauts made a huge statement to go top of the Premier League table thanks to a tactical performance that swept Manchester City aside.
The hosts took the lead as Heung-Min Son tucked under Ederson from the edge of the box after the South Korean was put through by a sumptuous chip from Tanguy Ndombele inside the opening five minutes.
Spurs soaked every pressure and kept the Citizens at bay before getting their second goal through Argentina international Giovani Lo Celso after a blistering counterattack midway through the game.
“We had a long time to prepare for the game without the players, to analyse what was difficult for them and what was easy for them,” Mourinho told reporters after his side’s seismic victory over the Manchester-based team.
"And we were firm. We had great belief that this was the way to play against them."
Harry Kane yet again put up a man-of-the-match performance and capped it with an assist for Lo Celso’s goal.
“Harry is just one great example of where the players are at this moment. Everyone is fighting with great solidarity and I could not be prouder of them,” the Portuguese coach added.
"They need to have the technical qualities, the technical culture, but they also need to have the desire to be a team player.
"And with Harry it is amazing because the tendency is to judge strikers on how many they score. But with Harry he will change that dynamic because people will assess what a striker does for the whole team."
Next up for Spurs is a visit to Stamford Bridge to face Mourinho’s former side.
“They have Champions League on Tuesday, we have Europa League on Thursday. I’m pretty sure they are not thinking about us and we are not thinking about them,” Mourinho concluded.
