Arsenal Still Focused In The Premier League, Says Arteta

Arsenal head coach Mikel Arteta has insisted that his side are still focused in the Premier League after a 2-0 victory over Newcastle United on Sunday.

The Spanish coach says the Gunners’ aim is to finish stronger in the Premier League.

Arsenal put the back-to-back defeats against Everton and Villarreal behind them to beat Newcastle United at the St. James’ Park.

Mohamed Elneny broke the deadlock in the opening five minutes before Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang sealed the visitors’ victory midway through the second half.

Arsenal are still in the Europa League semi-final and will be looking to turn the tie around when they face Villarreal on Thursday.

The North Londoners’ only realistic chance of reaching the Champions League is by winning the Europa League but Arteta insists the remaining Premier League matches are vital too.

"This game showed our focus is still there in the Premier League. We believe that anything is possible if you're picking up points and we wanted to put bad results out of the way,” he said

"We had a great attitude, some moments of real quality and had total control from the start. We refreshed the team because we've played so many games.

“Thursday was very demanding, but the team was really committed and focussed on this game and that's why we won.

"We controlled the game and we accelerated when it was needed. The early goal gave us confidence which we needed after the defeat on Thursday.

“We have to do as well as we can and finish as high as we can. You need big performances and we had that."
