Grealish Hails Mason Mount, Debunks Comparisons With The Chelsea Star

Aston Villa forward Jack Grealish has labeled comparisons between himself and Mason Mount as ‘annoying’ and insists his compatriot is a ‘terrific’ player.

The 25-year-old believes the Chelsea midfielder is underrated.

England head coach Gareth Southgate has been heavily criticized by fans and some section of the media for not playing Grealish, who remained on the bench for the Three Lions’ last two competitive games, while Mount started both.

However, the duo starred for the Three Lions in their emphatic 3-0 win over the Republic of Ireland on Thursday night, in what was the Aston Villa captain’s second start for his country.

"I love Mason. It's a bit annoying actually because he probably gets a bit of stick at times from it," Grealish said when asked about his purported rivalry with Mount.

"I've always been close with Mason. I think he's a terrific player, and I don't think we're even fighting for the same spot, to be honest.

"If anything, he's underrated, deserves all the credit he gets, and people who know about football will understand just how good he is."

Grealish added: "I want to play as much as possible; all I have to do is impress the manager as much as I can, since I've been here he's been brilliant with me, speaking to me on and off the pitch, telling me what he wants me to do, and that's what I've tried to do, so fingers crossed."
