‘It’s A Great Joy’ - Marseille Coach Happy After Sinking PSG

Olympique Marseille came out victorious in the first Le Classique game of the season against rivals Paris Saint-Germain on Sunday and coach Andre Villas-Boas was delighted with his side’s victory.

Florian Thauvin’s 31st minute strike was enough to secure a priceless victory for Les Olympiens in a standout fixture that was marred by controversy.

The French Champions have now lost their opening two Ligue 1 games for the first time since 1984-85 season.

In an interview with French news outlet L'Équipe after the game, Villas-Boas reflected on his side’s victory and was quick to praise Steve Mandanda who kept the hosts at bay with some breathtaking saves.

“Obviously it's a great joy to win here after so much time, I congratulate the players,” the former Chelsea and FC Porto coach said.

“We started the game badly until our goal.We put in a second goal which is totally good, I don't understand this decision.”

“Dimiitri ( Payet ) had a very good match even if PSG pressed and attacked well. It was his comeback after the Covid and he played well. As for Steve ( Mandanda ), he was amazing.

Leandro Paredes and Layvin Kurzawa, Jordan Amavi, Dario Benedetto and Neymar were sent off after an injury-time altercation.

Neymar accused defender Alvaro Gonzalez of racism during the game.

The Portuguese coach insisted that racism has no place in football but admits he does not want these accusations to cloud his team’s famous victory.

“Neymar's accusations of racism against Alvaro? I hope that will not blacken this victory. Alvaro is an experienced player,” he added.

“Obviously, there is no room for racism in football. But I don't think he said anything like that.

“It's a shame that this match ended with all these aggressions but if the referee had put the second yellow on Neymar, all this would not have happened.”

“The clashes with the opposing staff after the match? There were insults, that's normal. Well, he ( Thomas Tuchel ) told me he hoped I had played Loto tonight, I told him I hoped he had done it against Atalanta too."
