Chelsea are said to be keen on signing the Senegal international to compete with error-prone Kepa Arrizabalaga for the number one spot at Stamford Bridge.
Reports have been rife in England in recent days that Mendy is on the verge of joining Chelsea before the 2020/2021 season restarts.
Former Chelsea goalkeeper Petr Cech, who once played for Rennes during his playing days, is said to have recommended the former Cherbourg and Reims goalkeeper to the West Londoners.
Chelsea have reportedly tabled a £25 million offer to lure the French side to sell their keeper and Da Silva has conceded that the Senegalese could join the Premier League side despite hoping Mendy will stay at the Roazhon Park.
The 32-year-old Frenchman told Telefoot: “We are a little selfish, we don’t want to lose Edouard Mendy but it’s part of football and the transfer market.
“He’s a great goalkeeper who deserves what happens to him.”
Chelsea have been busy in the transfer market trying to bolster their squad ahead of the 2020/2021 season.
Mendy will become Chelsea’s eighth summer signing after the arrivals of Hakim Ziyech, Timo Werner, Ben Chilwell, Thiago Silva, Kai Havertz, Malang Sarr and Xavier Mbuyamba.
