Van Dijk has established himself as one of the best defenders in the game since making a big move to Anfield from Southampton in January 2018 for a then world-record fee of €84 million.
Having helped Liverpool become a formidable force in world football once again, the Dutchman was named as the UEFA player of the year in 2019 after guiding the Reds to their sixth European glory in Madrid.
The former Celtic man was one of the top contenders to win the 2019 Ballon d’Or, but ultimately lost out to Barcelona and Argentina superstar Lionel Messi.
Toure has admitted that Van Dijk is a top player due to his tactical awareness but insists he has to improve in one area.
“He’s an unbelievable player. He’s a top player. He has got everything,” Toure told beIN Sports.
“I haven’t seen many players challenge him one on one. In my opinion, that’s his weakness!
“He’s really tall and if you really attack him with the ball, he can struggle, but he’s so clever. He’s so clever because he drops well. But if you are really aggressive in attack in a one-on-one, I think you can get something from him."
