Coutinho Must Return To The Premier League, Says Rivaldo

Brazil and Barcelona icon Rivaldo has urged Philippe Coutinho to return to the Premier League in order to rediscover his best form.

The Brazil international has struggled for form since leaving the Premier League for Spain in the 2018 January transfer window, after an impressive five years at Liverpool.

The 27-year-old’s dream to play at Camp Nou did not turn out to be what he hoped for, as he has failed to live up to his known standard.

Coutinho was loaned out to Bayern Munich last summer, but the Germans declined to make his move permanent despite having the option to buy.

The former Espanyol and Inter Milan man has been linked with a return to the Premier League with the likes of Arsenal, Tottenham Hotspur and his former club Liverpool said to be yearning to secure his services.

Rivaldo has admitted he would love his compatriot to succeed in Barcelona but insists a return to the Premier League might bring the best out of him.

“Philippe Coutinho will soon return from his loan at Bayern to Barcelona but I doubt he can revive his career there,” the 48-year-old Brazilian said while speaking to Betfair.

“His best option could be returning to English football where he spent the best seasons of his career and in which his qualities seem to be best suited, as he proved at Liverpool when he was one of the best players in the Premier League.”

“At Arsenal, Tottenham or Leicester, Coutinho could be a regular starter next season. It would be a good opportunity for the Brazilian to rediscover his best form and show that he continues to be an excellent player who belongs to the elite.”

Coutinho’s stay in Germany will come to an end after the completion of this season’s Champions League.
