Coutinho joined Barcelona from Liverpool in January 2018 following five successful years in England, where he etched his name as one of the best players in the Premier League.
A dream switch to play alongside the likes of Lionel Messi and Luis Suarez has not been the fantasy move that the former Inter Milan man had hoped for, as he was loaned out to Bayern Munich before the beginning of the 2019-2020 season.
Barcelona have reportedly decided that they want to offload their record signing to ease off financial pressure, with the likes of Chelsea yearning to secure his services.
Roberto has admitted he does not understand why the Brazil international was loaned out and insists the Catalans should not sell a player of Coutinho’s standards.
“Coutinho, I think he should never leave,” the former Barcelona midfielder and technical director told goal.
“Barcelona is different to the rest, possession and good treatment of the ball are required and Coutinho has an extraordinary quality.”
“I never understood why he was loaned, it is only about finding his position on the pitch.”
“Maybe something could be done better with him or perhaps the player found himself in a bad situation.”
“I think some players need patience because they are the ones who win games.”
“We can’t discuss a player like him, able to unbalance, who works harder, who scores often and he never complains.”
“Barcelona can’t be allowing these players to leave because these are the ones who make Camp Nou fans jump out of their seats.”
“He is such a very special player. If it was my decision, Coutinho would never have left”
