Giroud Open To Staying At Chelsea

France striker Olivier Giroud has admitted he is open to the idea of prolonging his stay at Stamford Bridge after finding his place back in the Chelsea team.

Giroud was heavily linked with a move away from West London at the start of the year, having played as third choice striker to Tammy Abraham and Michy Batshuayi for much of the 2019-20 campaign.

The Frenchman is having a change of mind amid his recent stellar performances after returning to the starting XI under Frank Lampard’s tutelage.

Giroud was on target in Chelsea’s 4-0 victory against Everton last weekend, having also scored against Tottenham in February, when he was making his first Chelsea start in 2020.

The former Arsenal man’s current deal with the Blues expires in June, but the 33-year-old said he is happy now at Chelsea, and he would not mind extending his stay.

“I have two, three nice seasons in front of me. It’s not the time to talk about contracts. But one more time I will take a decision when it comes,” Giroud said, according to the Mirror.

“It’s behind me. It was a tough month for me. I do my job the best that I can and I’m very happy to be back in the team. Of course, my confidence is better. The transfer window is behind me.

“I’m a Chelsea player. I’m happy here again and that’s the most important thing.”
