Ex-Reds Defender Slams Salah For Being Frustrating To Watch

Former Scotland defender Steve Nicol has criticized Egypt and Liverpool superstar Mohamed Salah for being frustrating to watch despite a successful two-and-a-half years at Anfield.

The Egyptian joined Liverpool from Serie A outfit AS Roma in 2017 for a fee around €42m, a then club record signing.

Salah recently scored his 70th Premier League goal in his 100th appearance for Jurgen Klopp’s men, a statistic which is better than the numbers put up by former Liverpool strikers Luis Suarez and Fernando Torres.

The 27-year-old has already hit 20 goals in all competitions this season - the third consecutive campaign in which he has done so since his return to English football.

Despite his goalscoring exploits, the former Chelsea man has a reputation for not being clinical enough.

In an interview with ESPN, Nicol said Salah’s profligacy goes unnoticed because Liverpool always win.

“Winning is the deodorant of the game, but it covers all bad smells. Winning covers a lot of bad things,” the 58-year-old said.

“You can say it with Salah. Salah’s form this season, is there a guy that frustrates you more in the Premier League or anyone else with the things he does in a game?”

“Then all of a sudden he will produce something. So you could say the same about him as well.”

“But again, he plays every game and why? Because they win."
