Winning Ballon D’Or Will Mean A Lot To Lewandowski

Poland and Bayern Munich superstar Robert Lewandowski has admitted that it will mean a lot to him if he wins this year’s Ballon d’Or.

The Pole has been added to the 30-man shortlist for the 2021 gong and he is tipped by the bookmakers as one of the favourites for the most coveted individual trophy along with Jorginho and Paris Saint-Germain’s Lionel Messi.

Lewandowski was undoubtedly the best player in 2020 when he led Bayern Munich to an unprecedented treble-winning campaign.

The former Borussia Dortmund man was denied the award when France Football canceled the event last year due to the Coronavirus Pandemic.

The 33-year-old did not rest on his laurels and once again put up another stellar performance in Bundesliga where he broke Gerd Muller’s record of 41 league goals.

” The possibility of winning the Ballon d’Or means a lot to me, it makes me feel proud, if you look at everything I’ve achieved, not just this year, last year as well when they canceled the ceremony, I’ve won a lot of titles, scored a lot of goals,” the striker said when he was asked about his chances of winning the Ballon d’Or.

“It would mean a lot to me to win it, having won the Champions League, the Super Cup, the Club World Cup. Breaking Gerd Muller’s record of 41 Bundesliga goals was also a big achievement, one which made me very proud and happy.

“Everyone can see what I have done and keep doing. My achievements speak for themselves because my last two years have been a big achievement, not just for me but for any player in history.

“I don’t know if destiny owes me 2020’s Ballon d’Or to be honest because it doesn’t matter where I come from, I have a shot at winning the Ballon d’Or.

“I have shown that it doesn’t matter where you come from, what matters is working hard, being there, I’ve shown that despite having a difficult start to my career, you can have a lot of success and reach the top.”
