Defiant Pochettino Retains Levy’s Support

Mauricio Pochettino insists he has the full support of Tottenham Hotspurs chairman Daniel Levy despite the club’s stuttering start to the season.

A horrendous week saw Tottenham concede ten goals against Bayern Munich and Brighton and Hove Albion in the Champions League and the Premier league respectively.

Pochettino’s men have already lost four league games this season and have also been knocked out of the Carabao Cup by League two side Colchester.

Since joining Tottenham from Southampton in 2014, Pochettino has made the North Londoners regular Champions League participants but has been unable to stock the club’s cabinet with trophies.

Speaking at the Aspire Global Summit in Qatar on Monday, Pochettino said: "We maintain a very good relationship and it is extraordinary to have that support.

“I have always told him that in addition to my chairman, I consider him a friend."

"Football is not a drama, it is passion and we cannot separate it from emotions. But neither can we make a sport as fantastic as this one because of the latest result.

"We must learn from defeats to be able to exceed our limits and that begins by accepting that you don't always win and that the opponent also works hard and makes merits. You must always react with dignity to the result, regardless of whether it is good or bad."

Pochettino had earlier insisted he can take all the criticism coming his way.

The 47-year-old said: “After five-and-a-half-years, the last five days we really were punched, in football terms, 7-2 and 3-0.

“The most important thing now is to have two weeks to try to be clear, to find a solution.

“The pundits on television need to talk and they need to give their opinion. I need to accept all criticism.

“After five-and-a-half-years, it’s the first time that it is a really difficult situation.

“It is an experience we are going to use to be stronger and be wiser... We can bounce back.”
