Both players bulged the net to ensure the Citiziens record their second win in the Champions League at the Etihad stadium in a 2-0 win over Croatian side Dinamo Zagreb on Tuesday.
Scoring the first goal and also providing an assist for Foden to register his name on the scoresheet, in-form Sterling believes is about time the 19-year-old earns a senior national team call-up.
"I am buzzing for Phil and I want him in the national team, if he keeps going he will be there," Sterling told BT Sport.
"We have seen them [Dinamo] play with the clips that the manager showed and it was difficult to break them down at times.
"A few did not go in but we took our chance and then got the second. It is always disappointing not to start but we had to be patient. I was happy to contribute to the team.
"Players that we have here, you have to read the game and the goals will come."
Helping the England Under-17 team to clinch a world title when they defeated Spain’s youth side in the final of the 2017 Under-17 World Cup, Foden has since developed into a top-notch in the sport.
Foden has so far featured only once in the new Premier League season, playing just 10 minutes when the Citizens demolished West Ham United 5-0 in the season opener.
City, looking to win the Premier League title for the third consecutive time will welcome Nuno Espirito Santo’s Wolves on Sunday.
