Arsenal Deserved To Win, Says Arteta After Fulham Stalemate

Arsenal were held 1-1 at home by Fulham in the Premier League on Sunday and head coach Mikel Arteta has insisted his men should have won against their London rivals.

Arteta believes the Gunners’ bright start to the London derby should have been rewarded with the maximum points.

Arsenal failed to take the lead in the opening stages despite having the lion’s share of possession as the game ended 0-0 at halftime.

Josh Maja gave the visitors a shocking lead from the penalty spot on 59 minutes after a foul on Mario Lemina in the area.

Scott Parker’s men soaked every pressure from the hosts and were heading for a crucial win in their bid for survival but substitute Eddie Nketiah snatched a point for Arsenal from the jaws of defeat during the dying embers.

"We started really well, controlling the game and creating chances, scoring a goal that was disallowed, in a very disappointed way, we kept going and didn't allow any shots on target and suddenly we concede a penalty and the game changes completely,” Arteta said after the game.

"We took risks in the right way, we could have scored three or four, we totally deserved to win the match but put ourselves in a difficult position.

"We have to just focus on the boys playing away in Europe and arriving here with the desire to go all the way to the 97th, 98th minute."

Arsenal will be back in action Friday when they entertain Everton at Emirates in the Premier League.
