Chelsea Were Lucky Against Sheffield, Admits Tuchel Despite Victory Over Blades

Chelsea head coach Thomas Tuchel has insisted that his side were lucky to have recorded a 2-0 victory against Sheffield United in the FA Cup quarter-final at Stamford Bridge on Sunday.

The Blues stuck to their guns to progress to their second consecutive semi-final in the FA Cup at the expense of a spirited Sheffield United side.

Chelsea’s dominant performance in the first half got its reward when Ben Chilwell’s low cross took a ricochet off Oliver Norwood before beating Aaron Ramsdale inside the opening 24 minutes.

The hosts could not extend their lead despite having the lion’s share of possession and Sheffield United improved after the interval.

Substitute Hakim Ziyech settled Sheffield’s defeat in the dying embers of the game after they passed up glorious chances to equalize.

"Sounds excellent to say we're through to the semi-finals - it was a tough match. We had a good first half where we controlled everything,” Tuchel said after the game.

“We lost control in the second half, we were clearly tired. After 14 consecutive matches I could feel we were tired and we made many little faults.

“We were lucky to keep the clean sheet in the second half but I think it's the first time in the 14 games we have looked tired. It's important to go through in the cup and that was the target and we reached.”

After the international break, Tuchel and Chelsea will welcome West Bromwich Albion to West London in the Premier League before a daunting trip to Portugal to face FC Porto in the first leg of the Champions League quarter-final.
