Suarez Sale A Big Mistake From Barca, Says Iago Aspas

Celta Vigo marksman Iago Aspas has insisted that Barcelona made a big mistake allowing Luis Suarez to join their rivals Atletico Madrid.

The Uruguay superstar was shown the exit door in the wake of the appointment of Ronald Koeman as head coach before the beginning of the 2020-2021 season, as the former Ajax man was deemed surplus to requirements in Catalonia.

Suarez brought his six-year stay at Barcelona to an end to join Atletico Madrid for a paltry fee in the region of £5.5m.

The 34-year-old has currently scored 14 league goals, making him the top scorer in the ongoing season in La Liga.

Aspas, who played together with Suarez during their time in the Premier League with Liverpool, has admitted he is not surprised with his former team-mate’s effort and insists the Blaugrana made a big mistake letting the Uruguayan leave.

“The truth is he was a true forward, a winner even in rondos and training matches. He always gave 200 per cent,” Aspas told Marca when he was asked about his experience playing with Suarez.

“What you see on the pitch is what he's like training.

“He's always been a striker who scores a lot of goals, I think it was a big error on Barcelona's part, but they were struggling a bit with the wage budget.

“Atletico took advantage, moved quickly and signed a great striker. In fact, many of the points they have won are thanks to him and his finishing.”
