Salomon Kalou Joins Brazilian Side Botafogo

Former Chelsea striker Salomon Kalou has joined Brazilian top flight side Botafogo on a free transfer after leaving German Bundesliga club Hertha Berlin.

The 34-year-old former Ivory Coast international bid farewell to the club he has represented for the last six years two days ago with a message on Twitter that read: “Dear Hertha fans. Thank you so much. Hertha Bsc organization thank you. So many good memories shared. God willing, I will see u guys soon.”

Kalou was recently in the news after Hertha Berlin suspended him for flouting coronavirus protocols and he failed to make a single appearance after the Bundesliga resumed.

In all Kalou made just seven appearances for Hertha in all competitions in the 2019/2020 season, scoring one goal.

Botafogo recently failed in a bid to sign Kalou’s former international teammate Yaya Toure despite an agreement in principle being reached between the two parties, but no such problems have been encountered with the former Lille attacker.

Kalou began his professional career in Holland with Feyenoord before securing a move to Chelsea in the summer of 2006.

In six seasons at Stamford Bridge, Kalou won one Premier League title, four FA Cups, one League Cup and the 2012 UEFA Champions League.

Kalou won 97 caps for the Ivorian national team, scoring 28 goals and played at five Africa Cup of Nations tournaments, winning the trophy in 2015.
