Fenerbahce Pledge To Assist With Relief Efforts As Earthquake Strikes Turkey

Fenerbahce have pledged to assist relief efforts in Turkey and Syria after a 7.8 magnitude earthquake struck both countries early on Monday morning.

The death toll from the natural disaster continue to rise, with more than 1,200 reportedly killed while another 5,383 have been wounded.

The Kahramanmaras province in Turkey was the hardest hit while places like Adana and Gaziantep have also suffered serious destruction.

All sporting activities in Turkey have been suspended indefinitely and there are even reports that former Newcastle United and Ghana forward Christian Atsu, who currently plays and scored for Hatayspor against Kasimpasa on Sunday, is among those trapped in the debris as the search for survivors goes on.

"We are with our country. Our club has started work for the earthquake," read a statement from Fenerbahce on social media.

"Our club is getting ready to take steps after the earthquake disaster, which was felt in many cities, especially in Kahramanmaras, including in Hatay, Gaziantep, Adana, Osmaniye, Diyarbakır, Malatya and Sanlıurfa, and left the whole of Turkey with sadness.

"As Turkey's largest 'civil society organisation', Fenerbahce Sports Club, which has stood by its country and its citizens, has immediately started to work to take the most beneficial steps in the face of today's national disaster.

"We state that we will stand by our citizens in disaster areas with the action plan we will determine as a result of the negotiations."
