Southgate Chooses To Remain As England Manager

Gareth Southgate has opted to remain in charge as England manager following a period of reflection.

Southgate was said to be considering his future after England crashed out of the 2022 FIFA World Cup at the quarterfinal stage to France.

Southgate has been in charge of England since 2016 and took the Three Lions to the semi-finals of the 2018 World Cup and final of EURO 2020, losing to Italy.

The 52-year-old has a contract that runs until the end of EURO 2024 and it has been announced that he will be staying on for the duration of the tournament.

A statement from FA CEO Mark Bullingham read: "We are delighted to confirm that Gareth Southgate is continuing as England manager, and will lead our Euro 2024 campaign. Gareth and (assistant) Steve Holland have always had our full support, and our planning for the Euros starts now."

England will begin their qualification phase for EURO 2024 against Italy in March, with matches against North Macedonia, Ukraine and Malta to come.
