Crouch Bemused By Spurs’ Decision To Sack Pochettino

Former Tottenham Hotspur striker Peter Crouch has revealed he is flabbergasted with Spurs’ decision to sack Mauricio Pochettino on Tuesday.

The former Espanyol and Southampton manager was shown the exit door after five-and-a-half years with the North London club.

Tottenham Hotspur have finished in the top-four in four of the last five Premier League seasons under the Argentine tactician, including a league cup final in 2015.

The 47-year-old also guided Spurs to their first ever Champions League final in June, losing 2-0 to Liverpool at the Wanda Metropolitano Stadium in Madrid.

Reacting to Pochettino’s dismissal, Crouch questioned the attitude of some of the big players and has blamed them for the sacking of the manager.

“I’m flabbergasted by Tottenham’s decision,” the 38-year-old told Daily Mail.

“I know results have been poor and I understand why the top teams act when their potential to qualify for the following season’s Champions League is in jeopardy, but it is ridiculous to think Pochettino has suddenly lost his spark.”

“It never sits easy speaking about the demise of a manager because I have been in football long enough to know that sacking is never just about one man”

“I would hope that there are some players in Tottenham’s dressing room who are having a look at themselves in the mirror this morning.

“The harmony, clearly, had been broken and it is obvious that a number of players have wanted to leave.”

He added: “He led Tottenham into the Champions League final on June 1. Some clubs, who aren’t accustomed to that stage”

“I would have build a statue for a manager who took them to the biggest game in club football, but all Pochettino has got is his marching orders. I fear it is a decision Tottenham will regret.”
