Richarlison Attributes Everton Departure To A 'Lack Of Ambition'

Richarlison has attributed his departure from Everton to a lack of ambition shown by the Merseyside club in recent years.

Richarlison ended a four-year stay on the blue side of Merseyside when he completed a £60m transfer to Tottenham Hotspurs this summer.

The 25-year-old joined the Toffees from Watford in the summer of 2018 and scored 53 goals in 152 appearances, including some crucial ones in the last stages of the Premier League last season as they battled and ultimately survived relegation.

The Brazil international maintains he enjoyed his time with Frank Lampard's side but ultimately grew disillusioned with the direction the club was heading.

'It's always a tough call when you have such strong connections with your club, and that was definitely the case for me,' Richarlison said in an interview with FourFourTwo.

'I was happy at Everton and I'm grateful for everything I learned there. It's a big club with a lot of history.'

'Perhaps they're suffering with a lack of ambition nowadays. You know, that eagerness to win matches and trophies. I spent four years there and I could see there was still a very long way to go to achieve big things,' he said.

'I felt it was the right time to move on, and the club also had to make some money. It was a good deal for everyone involved. I'm delighted with this new challenge at Spurs.'

Richarlison has scored two goals and provided two assists in seven appearances for Tottenham so far this season.
