Jovic Ends Real Madrid Nightmare With Free Transfer To Fiorentina

Luka Jovic has ended his Real Madrid nightmare by joining Fiorentina on a free transfer.

The 24-year-old moved to the Santiago Bernabeu from Eintracht Frankfurt in the summer of 2019 for €60m after a superb 2018/2019 season during which he notched 27 goals in all competitions.

However, Jovic’s time in the Spanish capital did not go according to plan as he was unable to dislodge Karim Benzema as the club’s first choice striker.

Jovic only scored three goals in 51 appearances across all competitions during his time with Real Madrid.

A short loan spell back to Frankfurt in the second half of the 2020/2021 season produced more goals(4) in 18 appearances than his three-year spell with Los Blancos.

Real Madrid have now decided to cut their losses on Jovic, allowing him to leave for free but are due 50 percent of any future sale by Fiorentina.

An official statement from Carlo Ancelotti's side read: "Real Madrid C. F. and ACF Fiorentina have agreed a deal for the transfer of Luka Jović."

"Our club would like to express its gratitude for his work and dedication during his time at Real Madrid, where he has won 1 Champions League, 2 LaLiga titles and 2 Spanish Super Cups."

"Real Madrid wishes him and his family all the best in this new period of his life."
